Who I am

I’m a meteorologist with a lifelong love of storm chasing and technology. I earned three meteorology degrees from the University of Oklahoma, including a Ph.D., while working on flood and flash-flood research around the world. My pride and joy is the Ensemble Framework for Flash Flood Forecasting (EF5), which I developed for high-resolution flash-flood forecasting across the contiguous United States using radar-based precipitation estimates. EF5 also supports NASA SERVIR flood monitoring, forecasting, and capacity-building activities in Africa. Years spent chasing tornadoes in Oklahoma deepened my respect for the atmosphere and still shape the weather software I build today. Away from the forecast, I enjoy experimenting with new technology and traveling in search of memorable skies.

What I work on

Zac now works full time on WeatherWary, building professional weather software for Apple platforms. His earlier work at First Street focused on global physical climate-risk models. At Amazon and AWS, he built large-scale weather data and forecasting systems and ran open-data programs for environmental datasets.
